Total number of casualties, pows and planes/helios downed

Anyone has a link to an accurate cource with all the numbers ?

I find it bizarre that many so called <official> sources give us very different numbers.

By the way, anyone believes in the number of accidents involving helicopters, jets downed by the <friendly fire> ?

I dont't.

I spent 3 years in Italian military and I was in a parachuting/anti-terrorist unit and I know a quite a bit about air forces. The Italian army uses all USA, British and French planes.

I can tell you, from what I know, that there is 0% for an accident like the one with patriot missile and british jet to happen. Maybe not even 0%.

Also, NATO forces in their war in Yugoslavia were pretending that they lost 2-3 jets in 70 days, while they admitted after the war that they lost many more. The difference is, Yugoslavia did not show the pilots on TV. All the pilots were exchanged and there was no publicity about it.

I was in the US Navy and the Navy and other services had planes and helicopters go down in training missions all the time. Now you add the weather and stress on the planes/helicopters and pilots some are going to go down. Right now the plane/helicopters are having to fly with some problems they don't have the time to do every repair to make them perfect so they'll have more problems. I'm not sure of the exact amount of sorties, but I believe it's well over 10,000. So it's over 99% success rate. Maybe the Iraqis got lucky and shot one or two down, so what.

outandup.

it happens that a plane or a helicopter goes down due to <mechanical failure>.
I know that.

it is highly unprobable, or may I say impossible, to shoot down your own jet with todays technology, and i know that for a fact.

crash of two helicopters from the same unit is just a funny explanation imo. no matter what kind of weather they are in.

i also heard from some reporters that some of those helicopter crashes happen during the landing, because the pilots can not know how high they are, because of the dust and sand.
that is funny. piloting a helicopter is not the same thing as driving a car.

if you have ever been in a helicopter, and you probably have, you know what i'm talking about.

the succes rate you are talking about is probably accurate, but i just hate officials lying the public about the accidents and those funny reasons.

Don - just curious, do you know for a fact those events however unlikely in your view did not happen?

is worse than just admitting the Iraqis shot it down. Seems the better lie would be it went down because of mechanical problems not to admit the US shot it down. So I tend to believe the account right now.

jazz, i said i dont believe in those things.
why ? because it is highly unlikely to happen.

outandup. i understand what you want to say. but remember that there is a huge industry behind the army equipements. it is easier to sell those jets to a third country if all the accidents happened because of a human mistake, or weather condinitons. however it is much harder to sell them if your ennemie is shooting them down.
